Album Info:

This was the first oil well on a hill by Monarch (10 miles from Neola). Carter Oil Company drilled the well and they were telling everybody it was a dry well. Years later it was revealed that this area was a gigantic oil field. The picture to the right is my Grandpa shooting some hoops in our backyard.

    • My grandpa, Charles Hutcheon smoked cigars and drank beer all his life and he never lost the hair on his head. He lived to be 94 years old.

    • A few years later they drilled a well on Vick Brown's property approx. 2 miles north west of the Carter first well, then they shut it in. He decided on his own to open it up and oil came out so he got a tank truck of his own and started selling oil. The secret was out and this started the oil boom in the Uintah Basin.
