Yang Yang (female) and Long Hui are six years old Giant Panda Bears in the Vienna Zoo Schoenbrunn. Yang Yang gave birth to a male cub on August 23rd, 2007. His name is Fu Long - Happy Dragon - and he had his first performance in front of the public on January 30th, 2008 - and I was there! >>> On March 30th, 2008 Fu Long and his mother Yang Yang went out of the Panda house for the first time. >>> Fu Long weighs more than eleven kilograms as of early April 2008. Yang Yang's milk still makes up most of his diet, but he nibbles some bamboo, too. >>> April 2008: Fu Long is now on display outdoors, too! He enjoys all the climbing bars and does all kinds of of artistic exercises. He still sleeps many hours a day. I guess that in the morning there are the best chances to watch him! The weather in Vienna is great for the time being, like in early summer, the fog system in the outdoor enclosure is on, and the Pandas love to be outdoors! >>> May 2008: Fu Long is "on display" in the outdoor enclosure very often recently. He sleeps there, too, and so does his mother Yang Yang, mostly on a different platform :-) Fu Long weighs about 14 kg and is about 100 cm long. His size and weight show up especially when the keepers bring him down from his platform and carry him indoors where Yang Yang is already waiting for him. (They do it every day at 4 p.m., so that they can clean the enclosure and bring fresh bamboo for dinner).

  • Hello Vera, It is really a great pleasure for me to view your recent photos of the baby Banda “Fu long”. Your are really lucky to be there and so do we because we can seen such a great lovely creature through your eyes. I have visited Vienna many times in the past and I am planning to visit it agin this year in early March, but I have never been to the Vienna Zoo Schoenbrunn (Tiergarten Schönbrunn), founded as an imperial menagerie in 1752 - the oldest zoo in the world. I have planned to visit the zoo in the past, but my busy schedule some times and the very cold weather in some other times did not allow me to do so. After seeing your photos I have determined to go first to the zoo this year and of course capture some pictures there. Again thank you “Vera” for the beautiful photos, as always professional and amazing.
