From: The Architectural Review | Date: 10/1/1996 | Author: Davey, Peter The Vittorio Emanuele II monument in Rome was created at the end of the 19th century by Giuseppe Sacconi as a memorial to the first king of Italy. It is in front of the Piazza di Venezia at the end of the Corso. The monument is made of white Brescian marble. The details of the monument are classically right but as a whole, the monstrous monument is an architectural disgrace to Rome's urbanity and townscape.
