The bottom 60 feet of the Tybee Island Light Station tower was part of the third tower and was used as a foundation for an additional 94 feet authorized as part of the fourth tower built here. The walls are 12 feet thick at the bottom and get narrower as you climb to the top. This picture shows the depth of the walls at the first landing (and I didn't take it just so I could rest here, it really was an interesting feature!)
