It's not that hard to manually cut the board into three pieces each 1 foot long. It's tricky to keep the cut straight down especially when you don't have a work bench or a vice etc., but it's not critical to do so. I don't think I could get full marks there anyway. For building the mount, I used the pieces from the ends (so they had one factory cut short edge). The picture also shows the backsaw that I used to cut the board. The backsaw had been in my possession ever since I had tried my hand at making an (aborted) attempt at a piggyback mount for a telescope over an year ago.
